How to Care for Your Canvas and Leather Bag

How to Care for Your Canvas and Leather Bag

A Bomba bag is built to last — but like anything made with quality materials, a little care goes a long way. Whether you've just bought your first Bomba or you've been carrying yours for years, here's everything you need to know to keep your canvas and leather bag looking great for decades to come.

Cleaning Your Canvas

Canvas is wonderfully durable but it does attract dust and the occasional mark. For everyday dirt, a soft dry brush or damp cloth is all you need. For tougher stains, use a small amount of mild soap and warm water, gently scrubbing in a circular motion with a soft brush. Avoid soaking the canvas or putting it in a washing machine — this can weaken the fibres and affect the shape of the bag.

Always allow your bag to air dry naturally away from direct sunlight or heat sources, which can cause the canvas to fade or shrink.

Caring for the Leather

The leather trims, handles and detailing on your Bomba bag will develop a beautiful patina over time — this is completely normal and actually makes each bag more unique as the years go by. To keep the leather supple and prevent cracking, apply a small amount of leather conditioner every few months using a soft cloth. Avoid getting leather wet where possible, and if it does get wet, pat it dry gently and allow it to dry naturally.

Keep your bag away from prolonged direct sunlight, which can dry out and fade leather over time.

Storing Your Bag

When you're not using your Bomba bag, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Stuff it lightly with tissue paper or a soft cloth to help it keep its shape. Avoid hanging canvas bags by their handles for long periods as this can stretch the leather over time.

Everyday Tips

  • Avoid overloading your bag — while Bomba bags are built tough, carrying too much weight over time can stress the handles and seams
  • Keep sharp objects like keys in a separate pocket or pouch to avoid scratching the interior lining
  • If your bag gets caught in the rain, empty it out and allow it to dry fully before storing

A Bag That Gets Better With Age

One of the things our customers love most about their Bomba bags is how they age. Unlike mass-produced bags that wear out, a well-cared-for Bomba bag develops character and becomes more beautiful over time. The canvas softens, the leather deepens in colour, and the bag tells the story of everywhere it's been with you.
